IS ENTRANCE EXAM A RIGHT PROCEDURE TO SELECT A STUDENT
Entrance test are conducted after school to select students for professional courses. These exams are conducted in order to evaluate that students have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their higher education.
The student study throughout the year for his final BOARD EXAM and prepares various subjects. But the syllabus for Board Exams and entrance exams is not exactly same. The student has to concentrate to excel in both the exams. This puts an unnecessary pressure on student.
One of the main problems is that the entrance exam judges a student’s performance on a single day. The whole career of a student depends on what he is able to write during the short duration of an examination. The child may get nervous, could be unwell or not able to perform on that particular day. Or he is unlucky enough to get a tough question paper, he fails, his future is ruined. The examiner has no knowledge of his all round performance during the academic year. The examiner judges him on the basis of what he has written in his answer booklet. Examinations kill student's genuine interest in study and give importance only to cramming. Examinations have become mere games of chance and guessing.
Yet no other method of testing students on mass scale has been discovered. But, if there were no examinations, it is likely that the majority of students would not bother to study at all. We would never be able to separate the brilliant students from the average ones. The result should include some percentage of Board exams in selection procedure; along with entrance result is wise one.
