We all have
attended Indian wedding parties but how many of us realize that how much of
food goes into bins? And how many of us have noticed poor kids peeping in
garbage bins for some eatables? Indian weddings are very bright events full of
rituals and celebration. Indians are known by a nature to spend a huge amount
of money on wedding ceremony. A huge part of wealth goes in booking marriage
lawns or hotels; bridal wears and obviously food is must.
In marriages
food is most important part and is wasted too. Statistics related to food wastage
at wedding has been quiet shocking given the fact that it is the same country
where countless people has to survive without the basic necessity of two meals
a day. The marriage feast is grand which begun with starters (snacks), main
course and ends with deserts. The food is prepared for a large gathering and if
the guest is unable to come the food is wasted. With the growing trend of show
off a large number of food items are added to feast. The guests want to taste
all these items and thus they consume a little amount of each item and rest is
thrown into the bins. Piles of dishes of excess food could be observed in
garbage bins even knowing that shortage of food is touching records day by day.
There is a
need to enforce ban on wedding feast and few snacks, tea or cold drinks should
be allowed, or the best one is dish arty with limited guests to stop such
wastage. Another alternative is to call up charity to pick up leftover food and
distribute among destitute. At individual level one must understand value of
food and ask for only as much as he could consume.
